ASA-VIP Bronze-Level Coach

Becoming an ASA-VIP Bronze-Level Coach requires not only a commitment to improve your knowledge of coaching, but to uphold a special level of behavior in all your coaching activities. This level is summarized in the following ASA-VIP COACHING STANDARDS and Code of Ethics.  It simply states that by becoming a VIP Coach, you agree to place your athletes' safety and well-being first in all your actions and decisions.

ASA-VIP COACHING STANDARDS

1.               I WILL PLACE MY ATHLETE'S EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING AS MY TOP PRIORITY.

2.               I WILL PROVIDE A SAFE PRACTICING AND PLAYING ENVIRONMENT FOR MY PLAYERS.

3.               I WILL PROVIDE A DRUG AND ALCOHOL-FREE ENVIRONMENT FOR MY PLAYERS.

4.               I WILL TREAT EACH ATHLETE FAIRLY AND HONESTLY.

5.               I WILL TREAT MY FELLOW COACHES, UMPIRES AND LEAGUE OFFICIALS WITH COURTESY AND RESPECT.

6.               I WILL BE A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL TO ALL PLAYERS AND COACHES WITHIN MY PROGRAM.

7.               I REALIZE THERE ARE DIFFERENT ABILITY LEVELS AMONG MY PLAYERS AND I WILL ALWAYS STRIVE TO TEACH EACH PLAYER AS A UNIQUE INDIVIDUAL AND CAPABLE OF IMPROVING.

8.               I WILL PLACE THE REALISTIC SKILL DEVELOPMENT OF MY PLAYERS ABOVE MY OWN PERSONAL COACHING GOALS.

9.               I WILL CONTINUE TO GROW IN MY KNOWLEDGE OF COACHING AND SOFTBALL FOR THE BENEFIT OF MY PLAYERS.

10.           I AGREE TO UPHOLD THESE ASA-VIP COACHING STANDARDS FOR THE BENEFIT OF MY PLAYERS.

CODE OF ETHICS
 

Commitment to the Players 

1.               Coaches shall put the welfare of their athletes above all else while maintaining professional relationships with them.

2.               Coaches shall encourage the athlete to exhibit sportsmanship at all times.

3.               Coaches shall follow ASA rules.

4.               Coaches will treat players with dignity and respect at all times.

5.               Coaches need to understand that they are role models for their young players. They must project a proper role model image.

6.               Coach's commitment to the player and the player's commitment to the coach is an equal partnership.

Commitment to the Institution

1.               Coaches shall behave in such a way that they shall bring credit to their organization and to themselves.

2.               Coaches need to have and show professional behavior.

3.               Coaches shall act in full accordance with Southern California and National ASA rules.

4.               Coaches will follow the Southern California Code of Conduct.

Commitment to Other Coaches  

1.               All umpires and coaches shall be treated in a professional and respectable manner both on and off the field.

2.               Any displeasure with a coach or umpire's action or conduct shall be addressed through the proper channels and not through the media or through public opinion.

3.               Coaches will not recruit any signed (Player Agreement) player without permission from the player's current coach.
